Gloucestershire artisan smokehouse, Coln Valley, has won a coveted one star Great Taste Award for its Traditionally Smoked Scottish Salmon after the judging panel described the product as having ‘a distinctive flavour with a pleasant smoke and delightful texture’.

Coln Valley’s Traditionally Smoked Scottish Salmon, which is prepared using brick kilns, updated versions of the original ‘London smokeholes’, was one of 12,366 products to be judged as part of the 2017 awards and one of only 3,171 products from producers across the UK to win a one-star award.

The one star accolade places Coln Valley’s award-winning product in what judges dub the ‘simply delicious’ category.

Great Taste has grown to become the largest and most trusted accreditation scheme for fine food and drink since it was established in 1994. Since its launch over 110,000 products have been assessed and blind-tasted by panels of food specialists including revered chefs, cookery writers, food critics, restaurateurs and fine food retailers.

This year’s panel of judges included chef, food writer and author, Gill Meller; MasterChef judge and restaurant critic, Charles Campion; author and chef, Zoe Adjonyoh; baker, Tom Herbert, and food writer and baking columnist Martha Collison as well as food buyers from Fortnum & Mason, Selfridges, and Harvey Nichols.

Coln Valley’s Traditional Smoked Salmon can also be found at some of the UK’s most prestigious events including Cheltenham and the Henley Regatta.
